Book Reviews

Fact is, I read a lot.
My favorite activity is to settle down at the local Shari’s Restaurant–with a couple of eggs, bacon, sour dough toast and a pitcher of iced tea–and read for a couple of hours. I like to start my week this way, at the Shari’s Restaurant in Sherwood or the Elmer’s Restaurant in Hillsboro. A couple of hours of solid reading or study–generally, I only read non-fiction–eases me into my day and keeps the darkness at bay.
Reading is my chief spiritual discipline. It’s how I honor myself and God.
When I was younger, I was addicted to book clubs and spent most of my money buying books. When I was older, I encouraged my own children to stay up late, as long as they were reading. Consequently–and I say this in order to claim sole responsibility for their intellectual curiosity and actions–each of my children love books and, more so, appreciate the intellectual search to understand themselves and the world around them.
They watched a lot of TV, too. Though I watched (and continue to watch) a great deal more television than any of my three children. But you’ll find no TV shows reviewed here, save for an occasional mention of Deadwood in the daily blog (I love westerns!) Only books, the bad, the good and the worst of them, from the table(s) by our bed…
