Our Carson City fellowship meets once or twice a month. We’re big on everybody contributing something during our meetings–a dish to share, an opinion to lean into, a prayer or prayer concern. But people often come the same way they came into the world. Empty handed and full of curiosity.
Nancy and I have been discussing doing something again in the greater Portland area. In Forest Grove, for instance, where we spent much of our ministry time supporting the Forest Grove United Church of Christ, or in Sherwood where we have a martial arts studio. We miss the local connections and sometimes wonder if a bi-weekly interest or discussion group, an informal worship or Bible Study gathering, or other spiritual expression might not fit a few folks’ needs and not just our own.
We’ve actually begun to put together a discussion group in the Sherwood area so let us know what you think or if you are interested.
Here’s a few of our Carson City, Nevada dates toward the end of the year. Note that beginning in September, we’ll introduce a series of six Sunday morning meetings in Carson City, called “Walk Through the Bible!” While they won’t have the depth that our weekly Bible classes have in Forest Grove, you won’t want to miss them.
April 20-22
We’ll be in Minden on Saturday night at 5:30 PM, musing on texts found in chapter 9 of Nehemiah. Meeting and overnight hosts: Dave and MaryAnn McNeill.
May 31-June 3
We’re meeting on Saturday evening, June 2 in Fernley. Hang around and you might just get to see “the Reverend W. W. Ronin” (Gregg) and “Digger Burns” (Scott) participate in the Western States Cowboy Action Championship, also held that weekend in Fernley. Meeting and overnight hosts: Scott and Alisa Shaw.
August 3-5
Our July meeting takes place on Saturday, July 21st, but only God knows where we’re meeting! Hosts and location to be announced.
September1-2
We begin our Fall series of meetings on Saturday, September 1 at 5:30 at a location to be announced. And on Sunday morning, September 2nd, we’ll meet at Grandma Hatties in Carson City (2811 South Carson Street) at 9 AM for the first of six Sunday morning meetings entitled “Walk Through the Bible.” At our first meeting, we’ll survey the first five books of the Hebrew Bible—Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
October 26-28
It’s Nevada Day weekend, and we’ll be meeting in Carson City on Saturday, October 27th for our usual Chili feed and fellowship meeting. Host and meeting location to be announced. On Sunday morning, October 28, we’ll meet at Grandma Hatties for the second of our “Walk Through the Bible” meetings, reviewing the twelve Hebrew historical books—Joshua, Judges, Ruth, First and Second Samuel, First and Second Kings, First and Second Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah and Ruth.
December 14-16
Let’s have a Christmas meeting this year! Put it on your calendar now—so as to be sure not to miss out. It’s the third week of Advent and we’re hoping to gather at the Shaw’s house in Carson City for communion, quiet music on the harp and a meditation by Dr. Townsley. At our breakfast meeting on the 16th, we’ll look at the Hebrew wisdom books—Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon.
Coming in 2008
We’ll be announcing our Faithspring meetings for 2008 in December. “Walk Through the Bible” meetings in January, February and March will complete our bible survey: Part 4 will cover the Hebrew prophets, part 5 the Christian gospels and part 6, the Christian epistles.
