I’ve Finally Made Up Up My Mind

I can’t tell you how I decided, but I finally have decided.

For the last seven years–despite our keen and rewarding participation in the Faithspring Communities in northern Nevada and previously in and around Portland, and my recent though intermittent leadership at the United Church of Christ in Forest Grove–I’ve only flirted with the thought of re-entering ministry within the denominational church.

There was too much anxiety associated with the decision to take it seriously, not that I haven’t wrestled with it off and on these last few many years. And our business commitments, initially in Hillsboro and later in Sherwood, really argued against it.

Cowboy Fast Draw Nationals

I’m headed to the Cowboy Fast Draw Nationals in May. I didn’t qualify for it, you’ve got to understand. I’ve barely begun to practice with my six gun, and when I do I’m more likely to be found twirling than shooting. But it’s time for a road trip in our new camper and the best opportunity after Nancy’s marathon (next weekend) is the one in Idaho.

Good Time Had by All

The ministry thing is over and the question remains. Do I want to do this full-time?

My cell mate–please don’t take me seriously, it’s just that we shared a very small office, quite a change for both of us I’m sure–was a likable woman named Joni, who at one time was a United Church of Christ pastor, but decided for one reason or another, like myself, to let her credentials lapse.

Two of our students take first place!

A couple of our Sherwood people attended a local wrasslin’ event in Hillsboro the other day. We’ve got quite a program in Mixed Martial Arts–the newest martial arts rage in America–with two great instructors, Woody Little, a Brazilian stylest from the Straight Blast gym in Beaverton and Todd Swift, a Greco-Roman guy from our own studio in Sherwood and athletics director at a Christian school in Newberg.
