My SASS Alias

My cowboy action alias is “the Reverend W. W. Ronin.” But I’m a life member of both the Cowboy Action Shooting Society (SASS #72296)–a western style tactical shooting competition–and the Cowboy Fast Draw Association (CFDA #47). And what I’m hoping to do, besides being a bit more diligent in the second half of my life about having fun, is to pick up a couple of new skills while continue to learn about the personalities and pace of America’s western expansion in the late 1800’s.
I imagine that, in time, Nancy and I will be taking a fifth wheel to national gatherings competing and generally having a good time. And if you know anything about me and mine, you know that Deadwood, SD is the first place we’ll be heading. Go HBO! God, how we are going to miss that show!
In July, Nancy and our friend Scott Shaw visited world champion fast draw shooter Bob Mernickle in Fernley, Nevada to be fitted for a first-class cowboy fast draw rig. And while there’s no local club in the Portland area–I’ve got a few names from folks in the CFDA and “Talk Alot Bob”–I’ve got my wax bullets and shotgun primers ready and am comtemplating a home practice range. It may take some time, but I’m hoping to find a few folks in the area to shoot with.
Bad Eye Lefty and I are going to meet at Maggies Bun Saturday morning at about 8am. Maggies Bun is on 21street. When we go to the range and get to the end of main and turn left to the range, if you turn right and go to 21 st Maggies Bun resturant is there. I never was there but am told that it is a good place to eat..
