About Me (Pics!)

Nancy and I live in Forest Grove, Oregon, a half-hour west of Portland. We have six kids between us–three boys and three girls, ranging in age from 13 to 29–and three grandkids. This is a picture of me with granddaughters Sophia and Grace, with Grace’s mother, my daughter Rachel. Missing is new born Creighton Elija, to Jared (my oldest son) and his wife Charlotte.

I work as a martial arts instructor and small businessman. I never have to wear ties and I get to take my dog “Cora” to work with me. The people who train with me think I’m pretty cool. Sometimes I think so too, though most days I think I’m just plain lucky. Here’s a picture of me teaching martial arts. I’m not using the microphone as a weapon–though I probably could think of a couple of ways to do so–someone made the mistake of handing me one at a recent demonstration and I held on to it for nearly an hour. Twenty-five years a Protestant Pastor is a hard thing to shake.

When I’m not working, which is hardly ever, I like to spend time with my wife and children. I also like to read, travel and write music, though I haven’t done much of the latter the last couple of years. My most favorite activity is to watch cowboy movies. I don’t have any pictures of me wearing a cowboy hat yet. But here’s a picture of me looking like a minister. No need to worry, the only time I dress like this anymore is when I go to bed.

Just kidding…

Most of the time–no matter who I’m with, no matter what I’m doing, doing business, ministry, or just plain hanging with friends and family–I’m just me.

This is Nancy after a 10K run in Lake Oswego. She’s awesome.
