Fast Hands, Kenpo Hands

While I’ve tired of the fast hand stuff in American Kenpo–my martial art for the last thirty years or more–admitting (finally) that real combat isn’t the stuff we typically practice in class or see on an instructional video, I continue to admire it when I see it done well.

Our Black Belt instructors–Eric Kristiansen, Michelle Moore, and Greg Walker–do the Kenpo dance pretty well. And then you ought to see my aging frame, right?

This (click here) is a clip of Larry Tatum, one of the early proteges of the American Kenpo founder, the late Grandmaster Edmund Parker, and currently one of Kenpo’s senior practioners. If you like the kind of martial arts we practice in the American Family Karate studio in Sherwood–at least in our “stand-up” program–you’ll enjoy seeing this.

If you’re not a student of ours–previously in Hillsboro (the studio there has gone a different direction, sadly) or in Sherwood–give us a shout. We’d love to introduce you to this kind of expertise.

Someday, I’m hoping that our corporation will begin a third studio, perhaps in downtown Forest Grove. All things come to those who wait…
