Cowboy Fast Draw Nationals

I’m headed to the Cowboy Fast Draw Nationals in May. I didn’t qualify for it, you’ve got to understand. I’ve barely begun to practice with my six gun, and when I do I’m more likely to be found twirling than shooting. But it’s time for a road trip in our new camper and the best opportunity after Nancy’s marathon (next weekend) is the one in Idaho.
Thursday, they’ll be featuring fast draw contests between mayors and other local celebrities. Friday begins the actual competition and depending on how I do, I’ll either be shooting or shopping on Saturday.
Today, I let a few wax bullets go against some plywood on the side of the house–one should really shoot in the garage given the local constabularies and laws. In the next week or so, I’ll begin practicing in the garage.
Talking to “Marshall” in the national office, I asked what he used for targets and timers.
“Aw, we don’t use none of that stuff here,” he drawled, speaking for those who worked at Shoot magazine somewhere in the mid-west. We just use trash can lids.
Let’s just hope they don’t make their spouses hold them.
